RCCG Speahead Committee

About the RCCG Sunday School Spearhead Committee

In 2009, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye, gave a directive for a Sunday School Directorate to be established in the United Kingdom. The purpose was to oversee the local production and distribution of Sunday School materials tailored specifically for RCCG parishes in the UK and Europe.

Pastor Raphael Olurotimi was appointed as the National Director, and ten additional members were subsequently appointed. Together, they formed what is now known as the RCCG Sunday School Spearhead Committee.

Why Was the RCCG Sunday School Spearhead Committee Created?

The committee was established with the following key objectives:

– To promote the Word of God using the vehicle of Sunday School to reach people at the grassroots level across the UK, Europe, and beyond.
– To encourage deeper personal relationships with Christ by spreading the presence and impact of Sunday School in every parish.
– To ensure accessibility of God’s Word across all generations of believers.
– To contextualise teaching materials originally developed by the Directorate of Christian Education (DCE) at the RCCG World Headquarters in Nigeria, adapting them to fit the cultural and social realities of Europe.
– To produce high-quality Sunday School resources that are widely and easily available across the UK and Europe, using all available communication platforms.
– To inspire and equip a new generation of believers, raising a spiritually vibrant and committed community ready to advance the Kingdom of God.

The Situation Before 2009

Before the committee was formed, most RCCG parishes in the UK relied on outdated Sunday School manuals imported from Nigeria. There was no central coordination, and churches often purchased manuals individually—sometimes receiving editions that were between one to four years old. As a result, uniformity in teaching was lacking, and many congregations were disconnected from the most current lessons.

The creation of the Spearhead Committee brought much-needed structure and cohesion. It allowed for the production of culturally relevant materials specifically designed for the UK and European context, ensuring that all churches could teach from the same page—literally and spiritually.

Where We Are Now

Working alongside Regional Sunday School Coordinators and their leadership teams, the Spearhead Committee now oversees the timely and unified distribution of manuals across the UK. Today, these manuals are also supplied to both RCCG and non-RCCG churches in the UK and parts of Europe.

Looking Ahead

Our future vision includes:

– The continued development of digital tools, including the launch of our own dedicated app (already completed).
– Increased use of social media and other modern platforms to promote the Word of God.
– A focused effort to engage and disciple the next generation, making Bible learning both accessible and relevant to young people today.

We are excited about the journey ahead and remain committed to expanding the reach and impact of the RCCG Sunday School ministry.

God bless you!
